Awesome Farmville teenager petitions for a "plus-sized princess"...

I wasn't going to blog again so soon today, but I just ran across a very cool blog post about a teenager from Farmville, Virginia who started a petition to get Disney to make a "plus-sized princess".  Jewel Moore is 17 years old and a junior in high school.  She's a beautiful girl who happens to be "plus-sized".  Having grown up watching Disney heroines evolve from the standard blonde-haired, blue-eyed type to sloe-eyed, dark-skinned types, she recognized that Disney was trying to change the stereotypes as to what people consider beautiful.

An animator named Andrei Terbea happened to see Jewel's petition, as well as some very ignorant comments from a guy who berated her for her idea.  He was so moved by Jewel's proposal and irritated by the stupid comment by the fat shaming guy, he decided to make a plus-sized princess based on Jewel's picture.

Jewel Moore is overweight, but she is indeed a very beautiful young lady who, despite not being thin, could certainly pass for a princess.  I think Andrei Terbea did her justice in his rendition of Princess Jewel, a Disney style plus-sized princess!

As a side note, my alma mater Longwood University is in Farmville, Virginia.  It's a small town and I have some fond memories of the area.  It's very cool that Jewel Moore comes from there!  I think she's going places!  If you want to see or sign the petition, click here.

ETA:  It turns out Jewel is neighbors with my former college professor and current Facebook friend, Dr. Martha Cook!

  1. I've never understood why so many people think only thin people can be beautiful.

  2. Me either. A person's looks can be plain or fancy no matter what size they are.

  3. Thanks for posting. I will send this to Andrei and I am sure he will be most excited . Cheers !

  4. Really awesome! Thanks for sharing! :D

    1. Hey! Thanks to both of you for dropping by my blog! Andrei, you did a great thing for Jewel and for everyone who identifies with her. Thank you!
